Ladoga Nov 27 – Saturday morning at 9 o’clock was the time of the passing of the life of Thomas Marion Rose from this mundane sphere into eternity. Seventy-nine years ago, the 13th of November, this son was born to Alford and Mary Rose, on the 80 acres of land, three miles east of Ladoga, entered by Alford Rose in 1830. Thomas Rose’s parents were married in 1825 in Tennessee. They settled first in Union Township. Then came to Clark in 1830 with three children. Mr. (Thomas) Rose was born in 1832. Two brothers and two sisters were born afterwards, making a family of eight children, four of whom have preceded him to the unknown. Those that remain are: Lucinda Peffley, aged 83, WF Rose, age 76 and Dr. VH Rose, age 71 all of Ladoga. Thomas Rose married Sarah, daughter of John and Polly Peffley, August 16, 1860. To this union were born four children, May, Florence, Grant E and Thomas Jr. Florence and Thomas died in childhood. Grant E. married Jessie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Ashby, lives in Ladoga and is bookkeeper in the F&M Bank. May married MJ Benson. They have one daughter, Miss Ina, the only grandchild of TM Rose. At the time of his death, Mr. Rose was the oldest citizen born in Clark Township and was a 32nd degree Mason. The funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Uley, the Presbyterian pastor, at the home at 2 o’clock Monday. The Knights Templar will have charge at the cemetery, interment in Ladoga cemetery. Mr. Rose made a confession of faith in the Methodist Church several years ago but was never baptized. He was a man of wonderful mental ability. A man who was more widely known than any other man in this locality. He amassed a fortune, owning over 400 acres of land. He was a stockholder in the Farmers & Merchants bank. He made friends easily, especially with children. A more charitable man never lived. - kbz
